The Hammersmith Hospital endocrine Unit is a world leader in academic endocrinology. The emphasis on academic research plays a large part in the philosophy of The Department. The Department has an unrivalled success rate with major grant bodies such as The MRC and Wellcome Trust. There are currently 13 fully funded research registrars in The Unit undertaking post-doctoral work, making the unit the largest endocrine research unit in the country. The current emphasis of the Academic Department is on applying the recent advances in molecular biology to the study of endocrine physiology. The Endocrine Unit strives to integrate the link between hypothalamic circuits and with human emotion and behaviour.
